Description
In 1889 Monet worked in the rugged Creuse valley of central France, painting the Petite Creuse as it wound between steep, rocky hillsides. Stripped of pretty foliage, the motif is elemental; water, stone and the raw contours of the land, caught at particular hours as the light moved across the slopes. The palette runs to deep blues, russets and cool greens, and the surface is dense with the marks of a painter testing himself against difficult, austere country.
Our reproduction is hand-painted in oils to order by a skilled studio artist, built in layers on artist-grade cotton canvas to hold the weight and colour of the valley. Choose your size and framing on this page. Every piece is made to order and ships free worldwide.
