Description
Monet knew the village of Vétheuil intimately, and in 1901 he painted it once more, gathered along the Seine with its church tower rising above the rooftops. Seen across the water, the village and its reflection merge into a single shimmering band of colour, the buildings softened to shapes of light. It is a serene, atmospheric view, the work of a painter returning to a beloved place with decades of experience in his brush.
