Description
The great chalk cliffs of Étretat were among Monet’s favourite Normandy subjects, and here, in 1885, he paints the beach beneath the Falaise d’Amont. The pale cliff rises against the sky while the shingle and sea gather below, the whole scene alive with the shifting light of the Channel coast. Broad, assured strokes describe rock, water and air, balancing the monumental geology with the delicate weather that plays across it.
Our version is hand-painted in oils to order by a trained studio artist, worked patiently on artist-grade cotton canvas to echo Monet’s brushwork and coastal palette. Select your size and framing on this page; each commission is made just for you and ships free worldwide.
