Monet at High Museum of Art

Monet’s paintings in the High Museum selection range from buildings reflected in water to houses beneath a steep rock face. The images offered here include Autumn on the Seine, Argenteuil, Canal in Zaandam, Houses Along the Road, the hamlet of Chantemesle and the cliffs at Pourville.

Trees, houses and reflections

The High dates Autumn on the Seine, Argenteuil to 1873. Yellow trees on the left and darker trees on the right frame the pale water. Their reflections extend below them, while small boats and distant buildings sit close to the horizon.

Houses Along the Road, dated 1885 in the museum’s record, places light-coloured buildings beside a curved track. At Chantemesle, houses and a road are pressed beneath a much steeper cliff. The High records that work as an 1880 oil on canvas.

The coast at Pourville

The Cliffs of Pourville, Rough Sea dates to 1897. Pink and orange cliffs recede behind broken bands of green and ochre water. The museum describes the view through the mist of a passing rainstorm, a different coastal setting from the sheltered canal and river scenes in this selection.

The paintings below can be ordered as hand-painted oil reproductions. Canvas prints are also available. Open an individual painting to compare its dimensions and presentation options, or browse the wider Monet collection.

5 Monet works from High Museum of Art

The selection offers several ways of organising a landscape. Argenteuil places trees and their reflections around a wide stretch of water. The houses along the road make a smaller cluster under an open sky. At Pourville, the long cliff face and the broken surface of the sea occupy most of the image.

Use those differences, together with the listed width and height, when comparing reproductions. The High's object records describe the originals; the choices on each product page apply to the new oil painting or print. The grid is not a guide to which museum galleries are currently open or which works are on view.
