Monet at Amgueddfa Cymru, Museum Wales
The Monet paintings at National Museum Cardiff are part of Amgueddfa Cymru’s collection of French art. Gwendoline and Margaret Davies built their collections before leaving major bequests to the museum in 1951 and 1963. Their gifts are central to the museum’s Impressionist holdings.
Venice, London and a cathedral facade
The selected references below include several different arrangements of architecture and water. Charing Cross Bridge stretches across a pale, hazy view. The upright Rouen Cathedral, Symphony in Grey and Pink fills most of its canvas with the building’s facade. The Venice entries range from a pale view across water towards San Giorgio Maggiore to the much stronger orange and yellow of San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk. The Palazzo Dario gives the building itself more space in a vertical composition. The cathedral and Palazzo Dario emphasise height, while the bridge opens a longer view across water.
Read the museum’s account of the Davies sisters and their collections for the history behind the holdings. The product pages identify the work represented and show its reproduction options. We primarily offer paintings made by hand in oil on canvas, with canvas prints as an alternative. Check each page for the available sizes and presentations, or browse the full Monet collection.

The tall cathedral facade and Palazzo Dario have different proportions from the broad bridge and open-water views. Compare those shapes with the space you have available. For colour, look at the individual reference: the pale London view and orange Venice dusk are useful contrasts within this selection.
