Monet at Museum Barberini

Museum Barberini opened in Potsdam in 2017. The permanent display of the Hasso Plattner Collection followed in September 2020. The collection gives Monet a substantial place within its account of Impressionism.

Water, frost and the grainstacks

The selection below moves between subjects with quite different colours and structures. In Boats at Zaandam, upright masts divide a low view across water. Bordighera, Italy places branching trees in front of the landscape. The frost and ice scenes use much paler passages, while the grainstacks reference has a strongly coloured yellow sky and deep violet shadows. The London view adds a small orange sun above a dark outline of Parliament. The comparison brings together upright masts, the low edges of ice and frost, and rounded masses of leaves or stacked grain.

The museum’s permanent-collection guide explains the Plattner Collection and its display. Use the product pages below to check the particular work, image and original dimensions before choosing a reproduction. Hand-painted oil paintings are our principal offer; canvas prints are also available. Each product’s configurator shows its available sizes and presentations. You can also browse the wider Monet collection.

Compare the stacked forms and yellow sky of the grainstacks with the interrupted verticals of the boats and masts. The garden and water-lily references introduce denser vegetation and less open sky. Choose the subject first, then compare its proportions with your wall and the sizes actually offered on its product page.
